Battlestar Galactica (TV series, 2004-09), Caprica (TV series, 2010-11)

Watched 2004-2009
Battlestar Galactica (8/10) - The premise is that artificially intelligent robots (Cylons) have evolved, left humans for a while and then returned to conquer humans. It's hard to imagine what humans have that robots need aside from natural resources, and you'd think natural resources are readily available to an interstellar robot. However, the first two seasons provide solid science fiction and dark drama within a dying human race. The series gradually degrades into unrealistic plot complications with surprise double agents and polytheism.

Caprica (rating 6)

Caprica is the prequel series to Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009), and explains the origins of the Cylons. However, we are led to believe critical elements of Cylon technology were invented by a teenage girl, and the only way to get the remaining elements is through organized crime, murder and theft. Most humans are polytheists except for a few monotheists who, in between visits to a sex-crazed virtual nightclub (mostly hidden from adults), decide the best way to honor their one god is to commit mass murder. The AI and robotic stuff is good sci-fi, but the human element is annoying. Listen for the brief audio segment in episode 5 of the 1970s B.G. series theme.
